Jesus is not dead, He is alive. And He lives today in His people, the church. The Holy Spirit indwells each of us and all of us, binding us together in a fellowship of love, peace, faithfulness and joy. As we submit ourselves to God, as we follow what He wants (rather than what we might want), the result is Jesus again living and working and ministering through us. What began in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John continues not simply in each of us individually, but continues through the God-directed cooperative working of all of us. The church truly is the body of Christ as Paul declares in 1 Corinthians 12, verses 12-14:But even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. For the body is not one member, but many.
To be the Church means to live for Christ and to focus on our mission which Christ gave to His Church. In Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus gave us a command which we take very seriously:And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
